Leicestershire Building Control Partnership launches

An exciting new agreement bringing together six council’s Building Control teams into one service has started.

Earlier this year Blaby District Council, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Melton Borough Council, Harborough District Council, Oadby and Wigston Borough Council and Rutland County Council agreed to merge their Building Control Services to form the Leicestershire Building Control Partnership (LBCP).

Strengthening the Building Control offer across the county, the new service’s surveying team have a vast wealth of local knowledge and more than 100 years of experience, with some having worked on, been entered into and won national recognition at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Awards.

A new website has been launched for both trade and the public to book their inspections, including helpful information on each stage of the process for those new to Building Control.

Covering the majority of Leicestershire, LBCP are able to have someone on hand to help with client’s projects, whether it’s a simple house extension, a brand new housing development or more complex commercial works.

Leicestershire Building Control Partnership will pride itself on continuing the first-class customer focussed and responsive service offered by Councils before the new agreement began, including same-day site inspections if booked before 10am.

Service development and improvements for the customer will be at the heart of LBCP’s operations. This includes maintaining the 24/7, 365 days a year emergency call out service when responding to either dangerous buildings, or aiding the emergency services during major incidents within the district.

As a regulatory service competing against the private sector for its work, the service will continue to look for efficiency savings and better ways of working and will always factor improvements around what matters for the customer in everything that they do.

Councillor Sharon Coe, Portfolio Holder for Health, Wellbeing, Community Engagement and Business Support at Blaby District Council, said: “This is a fantastic move for all councils involved and we’re excited to be leading this new service as it launches in Leicestershire.

“We have been so proud of our highly regarded professional Building Control Service here at Blaby District and joining forces with our colleagues across Leicestershire and Rutland means we will be able to give a bigger and even better offering for clients.”

Blaby District Council will be leading the Leicestershire Building Control Partnership on behalf of the six councils.
